'O Desenho Expandido' ('The Expanded Drawing'), title of the exhibition by Luis Nobre opening at WHO gallery on April 20th 2012, is open to the most diverse readings over the concepts of 'Drawing' and 'Expansion'. Expanded drawing is understood as representations through which the typical materials used in Drawing, such as paper and pencil, are no longer the principal players, making way for photography, paint, clippings, thread. However, the definition and understanding of what is Drawing has gained freedom of expansion within our contemporary comprehension. A performance, a building, a photograph, may be worked and understood as a drawing for drawing is the projectual foundation of all artistic creation, be it at a conceptual or material level. And a drawing may itself 'expand' by crossing boundaries, be they geographic (as we may see in the series 350KM, in exhibition), be they semantic.
